I heard about this lift from the internet several months ago, and I thought it looked interesting. I still decided to wait on trying it because we never do anything like this for
CrossFit. Last week, I read an article about one of my personal idols, Bruce Lee, and his training. One of his most prominent physical features were his latissimus dorsi. As I looked over his training schedule, I noticed he did a lot of barbell pullovers. This made me want to try them right away.

The main muscle group this particular movement targets are the lats, but a whole gang of other muscles also contribute including pecs, triceps, deltoids, and rhomboids.

The setup for this exercise is to lie down on the bench. I grasped the barbell and positioned it over my chest with elbows bent slightly.

With my elbows bent slightly, I lowered the bar over and beyond my head until my shoulders were fully flexed and my upper arms were approximately parallel to the floor.

I repeated it a few times. The more I did it, the more comfortable I got with it. As with most lifts, the most important part was keeping my core tight.

I ended up doing 5 reps at 65 pounds. It was definitely tougher than I expected.

I want to do these a bit more consistently even though they are definitely not part of my CrossFit programming. Bruce Lee did them to develop his lats, and honestly, who can argue with those results?
