Watched Martin Scorsese’s 1980 Classic "Raging Bull"
Today we moved onto the next film selection from the AFI 100, J and I had some guests over (K, A, and F) to watch Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull”. This movie is a biopic about the life of former middleweight champion Jake LaMotta. It’s based on his autobiography, Raging Bull: My Life.

Gone To The Walt Disney Family Museum
I actually had something completely different planned for today, but the pending rain caused me to change my plans. So, last night, I came up with a few backup plans. This was one of those. The Walt Disney Family Museum has been open for a year now, and I had never taken the opportunity to go check it out.

Made An Online Papercraft
When I decided to do this one, I was pretty excited. A few years ago, I had seen a papercraft project online that was Portal related. It was simple, and it was cool. Since then, I’ve seen tons of papercraft projects ranging from Batman to Gundam to Tron Legacy. Pretty cool stuff.

Learned To Play Three Songs By The Ramones
I’ll admit it. I haven’t made enough time for music lately. When I was younger, you couldn’t separate me from my guitar. I loved playing music.

Watched The 1988 Film “Beaches”
Several years ago, J found out that I’d never seen this movie, and even though we purchased the DVD then, we didn’t watch it... until now. I’ve seen so many 80’s movies, but this one was a gap in my repertoire.

Eaten Roadside BBQ's Pulled Pork Sandwich
This sandwich is #85 on the “7x7 Big Eat SF: 100 Things to Eat + Drink Before You Die” list. 7x7 (the dimensions of San Francisco in miles) is a local print and web publication here in the City. On the menu, the sandwich is called the Memphis Pulled Pork Sandwich. “Memphis-style” is topped with homemade cole slaw.
Baked A Rhubarb Pie From Scratch
Rhubarb pie is my favorite dessert. Rhubarb has a unique tartness that when combined with a flaky crust and a little bit of sugar tastes absolutely amazing. Now, I’m not much of a baker, but I decided that when it came time for me to do some baking, this was an easy choice.
Judged a Mission Burrito Blind Taste Test
It’s not a secret. I love burritos, especially ones that come from the Mission District of San Francisco. Back in 1996, I worked at two awesome thrift stores in the Mission (called Nu2u and Nu2u2 that’s no longer there) for some time. So, I got to know several taquerias in the area, and I definitely have ones that I prefer to go to over others.
Read "The 4-Hour Body" by Timothy Ferriss (Cover To Cover)
I must admit that I don’t finish many books, fiction or non-fiction. In fact, I can’t tell you the last time I read a book from cover to cover. I use a lot of books for reference, but I almost never read books for pleasure.

Biked Across The Golden Gate Bridge
One of the benefits of working in the Presidio is that you are very close to some of San Francisco’s awesome views and landmarks. A splendid view of the Palace of Fine Arts (recently re-opened, by the way) is not far, and Crissy Field is a short walk away.

Done Clapping Pull-ups
When J and I were thinking about getting equipment for our garage gym, one of the pieces we were really looking at was the Stud Bar, a gym-quality pull-up bar made from 14 gauge steel. I really liked a video they made to show the uses of the bar.

Watched the Classic Film "Casablanca"
Continuing my series on the AFI 100, I watched the 1943 classic Casablanca. Unlike my post about Gone With The Wind, I am happy to report that this will not be a post in which I’ll be criticizing a well-loved piece of American cinema. This is a special film, and the Blu-ray transfer did not disappoint.

Driven San Francisco's 49 Mile Scenic Drive
The 49 Mile Scenic Drive is a tour of San Francisco, and even though I was born here, I’ve never driven it, but it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do since I first noticed the blue and white seagull signs (designed by an artist named Rex May for a 1955 contest).

Eaten a Whelk (Sea Snail)
Tonight, my family went to Moonstar Restaurant (a seafood buffet in Daly City) to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday. On top of stuffing myself silly with all kinds of Asian cuisine (sushi, fried rice, chow mein, a plethora of fried items, dim sum, etc.) and dessert (chocolate covered rice krispy treats, almond cookies, and cotton candy), J and I noticed this little gem labeled “Whelk w/ Black Bean Sauce”, a slimy looking thing hanging out of a sea shell.
Steamed Lobster Tails
I enjoy cooking, but one of the things I’ve never done before is prepare lobster tails. I found out that it’s not that difficult, and it tastes delicious. J bought a few wild lobster tails from Costco earlier in the day, and I was tasked with preparing them.
Watched the Documentary “King Corn”
Do you know where your food comes from? If you’ve seen the film Food Inc., you have an idea, and you probably realize that a huge portion of the American food supply comes from the agricultural crop we call corn. While Food Inc. touches on this topic for a bit, King Corn (available on Netflix streaming) goes over it through the eyes of two recent college grads. Upon discovering that their hair, which acts as a recorder for the food you consume, contains a huge proportion of corn, they decide to grow an acre of corn and trace it into our food system.

Started a Food Photo Journal
This year, on top of the mission of this blog, I decided to photograph all my food. Four days in and my phone had quite a few photos. Today, I made an album on Facebook that I can continuously upload to. It’s easy to forget to take the photos, especially the drinks, but I’m hoping it’ll become second nature soon.

Made Fat Sandwiches
For my brother in law’s birthday, the family decided to take a page out of one of the food trucks we saw in an episode of Man vs. Food. If you’ve never watched this program, it’s about a guy named Adam Richman that goes around the country and tries different food challenges at different cities.
