Beaten the Playstation 2 Hit "God Of War"

The God of War games on Playstation 2 and 3 have seen both critical and financial success for Sony. Back in March last year, my friend Carol got me a copy of the God of War Collection for PS3, and while I own a lot of video games, sadly, I barely find the time to finish any of them. Because I want to eventually play God of War 3, I thought I should start with the first one. So, it took me awhile, but I finally beat it.
Overall, I’d have to say that this is an excellent game. Even though the game was released in 2005, I felt it held up remarkably well (granted the HD update helped). There are many things I liked about it, and there are a few things I didn’t.
What I liked:
- -inventive level design (especially the Pandora Rings section where you rotate the rooms to line up how you need them)
- -the combat, while button mashy, never felt stale. It was fun!
- -the puzzles
- -the story (I find Greek mythology fascinating and this game doesn’t disappoint in that aspect one bit.)
- -most of the platforming
What I didn’t like:
- -the camera (it’s fixed and sometimes when Kratos runs into a section, the camera faces him the opposite direction which makes for some interesting control problems.)
- -some of the platforming was frustrating
- -one of the later levels has you backtrack... a lot.
I would recommend this game to anyone that hasn’t played it. It was fun, and I’m looking forward to eventually moving onto God of War II.
