Watched the Classic Film “Gone With the Wind”

With the goal of watching the entire AFI 100 list, J and I decided to watch the classic movie Gone With the Wind. Clocking in at 3 hours and 44 minutes, this film felt like a huge undertaking to watch. It does have a lengthy overture and intermission.
My knee-jerk reaction to the film is that I heavily dislike it, and I can’t understand why it’s on so many best movie lists (except that at the time it was made, it heavily influenced other films). I found it impossible to like Scarlett O’Hara. Everything she did made me cringe, and it was uncomfortable to watch this happen again and again for over three hours. I would not say that the movie is without merit. The scope of many of the shots in the movie are very impressive, and Clark Gable was pretty funny in parts.
I would elaborate more, but I wouldn’t want to ruin the film for others that might want to see it.
Next movie: Casablanca
