Made Egg Nog
"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love."
--Hamilton Wright Mabi
It's Christmas season, and no beverage more appropriately matches the holiday season quite like egg nog. I used Alton Brown's recipe to make this.
I started with four eggs. I separated the yolks and the whites out.
I used our stand mixer to mix the egg yolks with some sugar.
Cream, milk, bourbon, and nutmeg went into a pot and brought to a boil.
The egg and sugar are gradually tempered using the hot mixture. After it's all incorporated, this combined liquid is brought back up to 160 degrees and then put into the refrigerator.
While that was chilling, I whipped the egg whites with a bit of sugar in the stand mixer.
The very last thing to do was to whisk the whites into the cream mixture.
As you might know, I don't drink, but I served it to four people. All of them said it was delicious. I think I'll make more for one of the Christmas events I'll be attending later this year.
