For my birthday, our friend Ryan gave us some passes to go kayaking to McCovey Cove with City Kayak. We scheduled to do this today because there was a Giants game at 1 o'clock. Unfortunately, the game time was changed, and we found out we weren't going to be out there during it. It was no problem though. The weather was great today. It was the perfect conditions for being out on the water.

We headed out to South Beach Harbor and after checking in, we got our life jackets and paddles.

After a quick tutorial on how to use the paddle, it wasn't long before we got in the boats.

It took me a little while to get used to the kayak, but I did my best.

After a little bit of practicing in the harbor, we headed out into San Francisco Bay.

While heading out, I was having problems going straight. My boat kept moving left, and there was one point when I had to use my paddle to push myself off a concrete wall so I wouldn't crash into it.

We traveled along that wall for most of the way to the trip.

After a little while, we made it to the Cove. We hung out by the ballpark for a bit.

We passed the park and paddled underneath the bridge on Third Street. It was weird hearing the cars above us.

Once we went a certain distance, we had to turn around. I was fairly comfortable in the boat by this time, but there were still people running into me. Ryan and I had a bit of fun on the water, including using our paddles as swords.

We even raced a little, which was fun even though I lost.

Overall, we had a great time out on the water. The weather was perfect and the staff at City Kayak was really cool. I'd totally recommend this experience. Fist bump!
