Gone To A Professional Basketball Game

Earlier this year, I went to
my first hockey game to see the San Jose Sharks.  Today, on the second to last home game for the Golden State Warriors, I went to my first professional basketball game.  If you know me or have read this blog at all, you’d know I am a huge baseball fan.  I’ve always enjoyed basketball on TV, but I’ve never made it a high priority to go to a game until now.  So, like MJ said, I had to make it happen.

I bought the tickets a few weeks ago.  I met up with Frankie at the Embarcadero station so we could both take the BART train over there.  I think this is the best way to get over to the Oracle Arena because there’s a stop at the Colosseum and you don’t have to worry about parking.  I expected the train to be more crowded than it was.

We met up with Roger and went into the arena.  I got stopped from going in with my long lens and had to check it.  I was sort of bummed because I knew my pictures wouldn’t be as good as the ones I took at the Sharks game or even yesterday’s Giants game.  We went to our seats, and players from both teams were warming up.

After locating our seats, we went and got some food from the concession stand.  We sat down and watched the tip off.

The Kings took an early lead in the game driven heavily by their offensive rebounding.

One of the Warriors star players is Monta Ellis.  He is just a phenomenal player to watch.  It’s very exciting when he has the ball.  Monta struggled tonight going 1-for-7 in the first three quarters.  This is very uncharacteristic, but he also had a problem with his calf.

Stephen Curry had a great night with 27 points and 8 assists, including three 3-pointers.

Monta’s struggles gave way for more playing time for Jeremy Lin, the first Asian-American player in the league.  In 14 minutes of play, he had 4 rebounds and 4 assists (both career highs).

This was Jeremy Lin’s only field goal of the night.

I really enjoyed the events during the timeouts and in between quarters.  They had high flying trampoline dunkers.  They were very impressive.

Fans from the crowd shot half-court shots for a chance to win $25,000.

Of course, near the end of the game, the Warrior Girls did their thing.

Unfortunately, the Warriors did not win the game (104-103), but it was still very exciting.  In my opinion, late fouls and defensive rebounds killed them.  Also, Monta Ellis suffered a bad spill late in the game that gave him a concussion basically ending his season.  Despite the loss, I still had a ton of fun.  I had a great time enjoying a great game with some great friends.  I really couldn’t have asked for much more.

The Warriors close out their season on Wednesday at home against the Portland Trailblazers.
