Gone To The Annual San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade And Festival
March 12, 2011 Filed in: San Francisco

Okay, I have to admit that even though I’m a native San Franciscan, I had no idea that there was a St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. This year marked its 160th year.
I started the day by taking the train to the festival, which was at Civic Center. I walked around there where they had booths with crafts and food.

There were train rides for kids and carnival games.

After I finished checking out the festival, I walked the reverse direction of the parade route because it had not reached me yet. The parade ends at the festival site. It was neat to see Market Street totally empty.

Eventually, I got to a spot and saw the beginning of the parade.

The new mayor was leading the front of the parade.

The police and fire departments marched after.

The parade was full of local union groups, animal groups, and marching troops.

Every so often, I would see guys pulling these carts of St. Patty’s Day paraphernalia.

This Irish dance group was made up of a bunch of Giants fans.

I put together a bunch of video from the day.
After I was done watching the parade, I took the Muni train home.
